A Basketball Analytics Podcast
This week, we talk Kemba Walker, Taj Gibson, and the N.F. Himself, Deron Williams.
Manzell also talks about the latest results from the Labratory
Listen to it here.
Another excellent podcast, TDRs. Nice work!
Any idea why Kemba’s adjusted +/- was so bad when his unadjusted was good? He and Diaw were flipped that way — unadjusted, Diaw was in the negative, whereas adjusted, he was the only positive Bobcat.
Also, I think it’s worth looking at true shooting percentage in addition to/more than EFG because TSP takes into account free throws, which EFG does not. (see here http://www.basketball-reference.com/about/glossary.html) I believe Chris stated the formula for TSP, not EFG. As Scott rightly noted noted, Kemba has done a good job of getting to the line, which makes his efficiency numbers a bit better, though still not excellent. (Same point holds for Deron Williams generally, though I agree re: his diminishing quickness, reliance on the jump shot, etc., and that shows in his lack of FT attempts this year — lowest since his 2nd year in the league.)
